So they can license this, and they have had some success in the past on the CPU front licensing arm.ĪKIKO FUJITA: And Chris, talking about supply here, I mean, the demand is certainly not the concern, as the company has shown in this most recent quarter. They have ARM-based server- sorry, ARM-based CPU capabilities today with their Tegra platform that powers the Nintendo Switch. They can license the technology, the ARMv8 server technology, and in fact, many analysts have forgot this, but NVIDIA, in, I believe, it was 2016, created Project Denver, which was, in fact, a ARM-based server platform that they had been working on. I'm just wondering what your thoughts on that thinking is.ĬHRIS ROLLAND: Yeah, that is, indeed, right. And then we talked to another analyst earlier today on one of our programs, saying that they don't need this deal. And then the stock really didn't get hit that much when, I guess, the regulators and reports were kind of throwing cold water over the whole deal. I think it was September of last year when the partnership or the acquisition was first announced, and there was a big bump in stock price. I've been following the price action on the various news releases. I was kind of scratching my head, looking at all the charts. And I think some of the commentary last night kind of puts the final nail in the ARM coffin here. So, you know, it was already in the stock, the fact that this deal is not going to happen. That said, the smartest investors that we talked to in the name were baking, I would say, less than a 10% chance of this deal being done anyway. And we think it is highly unlikely this deal is ultimately going to get done.

They highlighted that this had to go to phase two with the UK government. This quarter, they seemed much less certain. Last call, they said they thought this was most likely going to happen and past regulatory muster. How much of that do you think can actually weigh on the stock? I mean, it certainly doesn't feel like investors are thinking about that today.ĬHRIS ROLLAND: Yeah, that's right. Chris, we're talking about a lot of records here in the quarter, but one thing that caught my attention is still the cloud around this ARM acquisition, especially with regulatory scrutiny over in the UK, now here in the US. Let's bring in Chris Rolland, Susquehanna senior equity analyst. And its gaming business also reporting record revenue. NVIDIA's data center business a big driver, reporting a record $2.9 billion in the quarter. Revenue jumped 50% in the quarter, compared to the same period last year.
